Johnston veteran, 91, speechless after receiving home repairs
JOHNSTON, R.I. (WJAR) — A Johnston veteran whose roof caved in will soon be the recipient of a remodeled home courtesy of community members and USAA.
Ninety-one-year-old Bernard Pavia is a Korean War veteran who served in both the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force. He also spent time in the National Guard.
For years, he’s lived in a home that he helped to build along Forest Drive in Johnston.
“I’ve been here for over 60 years,” said Pavia.

Giving Back to Those Who Served
As part of our ongoing commitment to giving back to those who served, we launched the Mission Give-Back program in 2022 to honor veterans who have sacrificed for our country. Each year, the chosen recipient receives a complete roof replacement, professionally installed by our licensed and insured crews, with all labor and materials 100% covered.
“This is just one small way we can say ‘thank you’ to the men and women who served,” said David Rosati, Owner of N.E. Building & Restoration LLC. “Veterans give so much, and we’re proud to provide a safe, lasting roof over their heads in return.”
The nomination process is open to the public each year via the company’s website, and any honorably discharged veteran residing in MA, RI, or CT is eligible.
